About

Nicholas Sanchez

I’m a photographer based in Canberra, Australia, working across portraiture, architecture and documentary photography.

My practice is analog and digital. I shoot black and white film, develop every roll by hand, scan the negatives myself, and print selected work as carbon pigment inkjet prints, chosen for their archival permanence and tonal range. I put careful process ahead of volume, to make images built to last.

Process

Film. Medium and large format for portraits and buildings, 35mm for documentary work.
Leica M4 + 35mm Summicron, Leica M3 + 28mm Elmarit, Nikon FM + 35mm, Nikon FM + 28mm

Development. Each roll and sheet is developed by hand. I use XTOL with a simple rotary dev machine.

Scanning. Negatives are scanned at home with a Lightbox and a Nikon D850.

Printing. Selected images are printed with carbon pigment inks on cotton paper, a process valued for its permanence and its long, neutral tonal scale. (Placeholder — paper, sizes and editions.)

Prints & enquiries

Selected photographs are available as archival carbon pigment prints. (Placeholder — edition sizes, dimensions and pricing to come. Until then, please get in touch by email.)
